I leave for a two-week trip to New York on Wednesday. I can't wait. There are a bazillion reasons why I want to go to New York, most of which fall under
a) seeing friends,
b) doing cool New York stuff,
c) eating delicious food,
d) nostalgia.
Someone recently asked why I would ever want to go to New York City in the summer, with its ungodly heat and interminable mugginess. This is a good point. I have two answers:
- I love the heat. That's right. I like it when it's very hot. It's the cold I can't stand.
- You might think that in lovely Northern California, the weather would be idyllic. This is true if you go about 70 miles east to the Bay Area. I, however, live in the Central Valley, which acts as a huge basin to capture all the hot air from everywhere around. I call your attention to exhibit A, the weather forecast for the next few days in Davis:
Ah New York in the summer time: cool and breezy.
