With the warm weather upon us, trips to the beach and swimming hole are imminent. This Wednesday is in fact the first game for my intramural inner-tube water polo team, Team Awesome (which should be interesting, since I am also currently nursing a br
oken toe, which I sustained playing volleyball, of all things). That being said, I'm tired of the same old boring swim suit. What I really want is one of those awesome striped bathing suits from the '20s (or whenever), with the shoulder straps that look sort of like old timey circus strongman outfits.
These things are surprisingly hard to find. I looked online, but I don't know the official term for them, so I end up googling "old timey men's bathing suit" and "swimsuit men 1920s" which gets me to some interesting gay fetish sites*, but not much closer to purchasing a rad swimsuit. I did find a could of vintage suits on eBay but those were problematic because A) they cost like $200, and B) they were actually vintage, meaning that I would be buying a 90 year-old swimsuit. I can see the headline now: "Local water polo team linked to reintroduction of typhoid epidemic."
The point is, if anyone knows where to get a new, usable old timey-style bathing suit, please let me know.
PS - I got my tickets to go to New York in July! I'm psyched!
*Not really.

If you have swimsuit bottoms that fit the way you like, creating a swimsuit pattern like the one you want would be easy. I've been meaning to do this for a few years, because I too, like the more demure swimsuits of yesteryear, but am loathe to wear a used swimsuit. Call me a prude, but, ew.
